Welcome to LetUsVoteIowa.com!
Informing Iowans, who will encourage their legislators to let the people vote on the Iowa Marriage Amendment (IMA) as early as the law allows which is 2009 … which requires its first passage through the House and Senate during the 2008 Session.
Our Message to the Iowa Legislature:
Bring the IMA up for a vote AND pass it for the first time in 2008!
As things stand currently, the definition of marriage in Iowa has been re-defined by Polk County District Judge Robert Hanson and it will ultimately be determined by the Iowa Supreme Court, unless the Iowa Legislature acts now! We are asking the Iowa Legislature, led by Senator Mike Gronstal and Representative Pat Murphy, to let “we the people” of Iowa have the opportunity to vote on the definition of marriage ourselves.
Gronstal and Murphy have complete control of whether the IMA is brought up for a vote in the House and Senate in 2008. If they allow the IMA up and if the legislature votes its first passage in 2008, we the people of Iowa could potentially vote on a Constitutional Amendment defining marriage as being between one man and one woman as early as 2009 – after its second passage next year. If they don’t allow the IMA up for or if they don’t pass it in 2008, then the earliest we’d have the chance to vote on the IMA would be 2011 – way too late, if the Iowa Supreme Court rules in favor of same-sex marriage.
So we’re asking Gronstal and Murphy and other members of the Iowa Legislature: Let us vote! You don’t have to agree with our view of same-sex marriage, but give we the people – the Iowans you serve, who are on both sides of this issue – the opportunity to have a voice in how marriage is defined in our state.

#1. Call or email representatives and senators who supported this effort, and THANK THEM for their stand for marriage. We may have lost this round, but the fight is far from over!
#2. Personnel is policy. This legislative session is proof of that. Help us find and support pro-family candidates as we turn our attention to the November state elections. We are currently training new candidates who stand with us on this issue.
We will be updating the whole website as soon as we can - many changes need to take place. Please check back often as this issue is extremely important to our state and nation.
Most of all, THANK YOU for your work in contacting legislators, and standing with us. But please join us in continuing this fight in a different form.
